Battery and alternator test
Car battery check and servicing in Dubai
A proper test tells you whether your battery is healthy, weak or failing, and whether your alternator is charging it correctly. We bring the tester to your car.

What a battery test measures
A multimeter reading only tells you the battery’s voltage at rest. That is not enough: a battery can show a normal voltage and still be unable to deliver the current needed to start the engine.
A load or conductance test measures how much starting power the battery can still deliver compared with its rating. Combined with a starter and alternator check, it tells you whether the battery is the problem, or something else is.
What we test and why
| Aspect | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Resting voltage | State of charge, a first indicator only |
| Cranking ability (CCA) | Whether the battery can still start the engine reliably |
| Starter draw | Whether the starter motor is pulling too much current |
| Alternator output | Whether the battery is being charged correctly while driving |
| Parasitic drain (on request) | Whether something is draining the battery with the car off |
What a car battery service includes
A battery service is a health check plus the basic maintenance that keeps a good battery working. This is what we do at the car.
-
Terminal cleaning
Corrosion removed from the terminals and clamps, then the clamps tightened. Loose or corroded terminals cause starting problems even on a healthy battery.
-
Battery health test
A load or conductance test measures how much starting power (CCA) the battery still has compared with its rating.
-
Charging and alternator test
Alternator output checked with the engine running, so you know the battery is being charged properly.
-
Starter check
Starter draw measured during cranking, to rule out a starter fault.
-
Drain check
On request, we measure the current the car draws when it is switched off, to find a dash cam, tracker or other circuit flattening the battery.
-
Clear result
You get the test result and our recommendation: keep the battery, replace it soon, or replace it now.
Diagnosis
What the results mean
-
Good battery, good charging
Cause: No battery fault
Do: No replacement needed
-
Good battery, low charging
Cause: Alternator or belt problem
Do: Repair charging first; a new battery will not last
-
Weak battery, good charging
Cause: Battery wear
Do: Replace soon, especially before summer
-
Failed battery
Cause: Battery cannot hold or deliver charge
Do: Replace now
-
Battery drains overnight
Cause: Parasitic drain
Do: Find the circuit causing the drain
Warning signs
When to get your battery tested
- Before summer, if the battery is two or more years old
- Before a long road trip or desert drive
- After the car has been parked for several weeks
- When the car has needed a jump start
- When the battery warning light comes on
- When buying a used car
Testing first
Why we test before we sell
A lot of batteries are replaced when the real problem is a loose terminal, a failing alternator or a dash cam draining the car overnight. A new battery hides those problems for a few weeks, then they come back.
Testing first means you only buy a battery when you need one, and the real fault gets fixed.
FAQ
Car Battery Testing: common questions
What is car battery servicing?
Car battery servicing is a check of the battery’s health and the charging system, plus cleaning and tightening the terminals. Most modern batteries are sealed, so there is no water to top up. The service tells you whether the battery can be kept or needs replacing.
How long does a battery test take?
A battery and charging test is quick. A parasitic drain test takes longer, because the car has to settle before the measurement.
Can a battery pass a test and still fail?
A battery that tests marginal may last a while or may fail soon, especially in summer heat. We will tell you where it sits on the scale so you can decide.
Do you test hybrid 12V batteries?
Yes. Hybrid cars have a 12V auxiliary battery that powers the electronics and starts the system. We test it the same way.
