FAQ
Finding the right battery: common questions
Which car battery do I need?
You need a battery that matches four things: the case size, the terminal position, the capacity (Ah and CCA) and the technology (standard, EFB or AGM). The quickest way to find it is the label on the battery already in the car. If you cannot reach it, the make, model and year are usually enough for us to confirm.
Can I fit a bigger battery, such as 80Ah instead of 60Ah?
Only if it fits the tray and the hold-down, and the car allows it. A slightly larger capacity is sometimes fine, but much larger does not help because the charging system is set up for the original rating. On cars with battery management, a change in capacity must be coded.
What do 60Ah, 70Ah and 80Ah mean?
Ah (amp-hours) is the battery’s capacity: how much energy it stores. CCA (cold cranking amps) is how much current it can deliver to start the engine. Both are on the label. Match them to what your car specifies.
Where is the battery label?
On the top or the front of the battery. It shows the size code (for example 55D23L, LN3 or group 48), the capacity in Ah, the CCA and often a date code.
