Battery replacement on Toyota vehicles

Toyota is one of the most common makes on UAE roads, from Corollas and Camrys to Land Cruisers and Hilux pickups. Most petrol Toyotas use conventional or EFB batteries under the bonnet and do not need battery registration, which keeps replacement simple. Hybrids are different: they have a separate 12V auxiliary battery that must be replaced with the correct type.

What to know about Toyota batteries

  • Many Toyota models use Japanese (JIS) battery sizes, so the case size and terminal side must match exactly.
  • Hybrid models have a 12V auxiliary battery in addition to the high-voltage traction battery. We replace the 12V battery only; the hybrid pack is a dealer or specialist job.
  • Some larger models and diesel variants can have different battery specifications from the common petrol versions.

How it works

How we replace a Toyota battery

  1. 01

    Identify the exact vehicle

Model, year and engine, so we know which Toyota battery specification applies.

  2. 02

    Test the old battery

Battery and charging system tested, so we only replace what has failed.

  3. 03

    Fit the matched battery

Correct size, terminals and technology, with memory support where the car allows.

  4. 04

    Verify charging

Alternator output checked so the new battery is charged correctly.

AGM, EFB or conventional

Battery options for Toyota

Fit the type your car came with. You can sometimes upgrade (for example from EFB to AGM), but never fit a lower type.

Common on these cars

Conventional (flooded)

Standard lead-acid battery with liquid electrolyte.

The most common and affordable type. Heat speeds up water loss and plate corrosion, so in Dubai they tend to wear out faster than in cooler climates.

Best for: Cars without start-stop that were built for a conventional battery.

Common on these cars

EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery)

Stronger flooded battery built for more frequent cycling.

Handles repeated starts better than a conventional battery. A car that came with EFB should get EFB or AGM, never a conventional battery.

Best for: Entry-level start-stop systems and cars originally fitted with EFB.

AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat)

Sealed battery with electrolyte held in glass mats.

Spill-proof, vibration-resistant and built for deep cycling. Common in European premium cars and often fitted in the boot or under a seat. A car built for AGM must stay on AGM.

Best for: Advanced start-stop, energy recovery and cars with heavy electrical demand.
